1962
Launches Jammy’s Sound System
Establishes his own sound system, laying the foundations of a legendary career.
1967
Apprenticeship with King Tubby
Begins working alongside King Tubby, building pre amplifiers and learning electronics.
1970
Moves to Canada
Relocates to Canada to pursue a career in electronics, further developing his technical expertise.
1976
Returns to King Tubby’s Studio
Returns to Jamaica as resident sound engineer at King Tubby’s studio, working with leading producers including Bunny Lee.
1978
Launches Jammy’s Record Label
Establishes his own record label, marking the beginning of an extraordinary production legacy.
1979
First Major Productions
Releases his first three albums in the UK through Count Shelly’s Third World Records, introducing the Black Uhuru and a new sound to the world.
1985
The Sleng Teng Revolution
Produces the groundbreaking Under Mi Sleng Teng, launching the digital dancehall era, redefining reggae and establishing dancehall as a globally recognised genre.
1987
Dancehall’s Dominant Producer
King Jammy’s studio becomes a creative powerhouse, producing defining records for artists including Admiral Bailey, Shabba Ranks, Cocoa Tea and many others.
1988
From Dancehall to Hollywood
Leroy Gibbons’ Jammy-produced recording of This Magic Moment is featured in the Tom Cruise film Cocktail, bringing the Jammy sound to an international cinema audience.
1992
Introducing Bounty Killer
Records the young Bounty Killer at Jammy’s studio, helping introduce one of dancehall’s most influential voices to audiences in Jamaica and internationally.

National Recognition
